Bringing Africa to you since 1991

For most people, a trip to Africa is a once in a lifetime experiences, and the people you choose and trust to take you there can make or break your adventure.  We know this because we’ve been around the ‘Africa’ block a few times ourselves …

We’re a company built on 40 years of first-hand experience. John’s guided safaris in most parts of Africa for over four decades and, as fate would have it, met Debbie whilst travelling in Botswana.

We built Wild Frontiers from scratch, and we remain hands on in our business, every single day. It’s our reason for being– bringing the wonders of Africa to our guests for over three decades, and we love what we do as much today as we did when we first started out. Find out more about our story…

We’re more than just a safari company, we’re the full package

The team we have chosen to work with us are as knowledgeable and passionate about Africa as we are. And we’re a big team. That’s because we don’t just ‘sell’ safaris.

We own and operate a selection of camps/ lodges, as well as a fleet of safari vehicles and boats, in Tanzania and Uganda. We employee over 140 staff across our operations. From our travel designers who meticulously plan every detail of your tailormade trip, to your safari guide with more knowledge than an encyclopaedia, and the staff who welcome you warmly to our camps and lodges which blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of the African landscapes – when you travel with Wild Frontiers’ you’ll be looked after by us all the way.

We’ve travelled this region extensively over the years. We know the roads, seasons, travel times etc, and make sure that your safari does not miss out on any highlights due to a poorly planned itinerary. In some destinations we use the services of partner companies. Our choice here is vital – we have known many of them since the 1980s when John started guiding trips. We know they will look after you and keep you happy.

Ethics

The places we take you to are places to cherish, and it’s non negotiable to us that we, and the partners we work with, operate a sustainable company that does our part to conserve this continent for generations to come.

Our camps are built and run in an eco-friendly manner.

In Uganda, your stay with us contributes to The Future Generations Trust, through which we assist communities to develop in a sustainable and environmentally-conscious manner, whilst simultaneously protecting and conserving the wildlife within tourism areas of Uganda. Our most hands-on project, The Large Carnivore Monitoring Project, aims to count, monitor, and protect the major carnivores of the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park in order to gain the essential knowledge needed to preserve and grow these threatened populations. We support the Uganda Conservation Foundation, Ride 4 a Woman, Batwa Empowerment Village and Bwindi Community Hospital, amongst others.

In Tanzania, we are proud to work closely with The Kilimanjaro Project, an initiative reforesting the foothills of Kili one tree at a time. For every night guests spend on safari with us a $5 donation is made to the project, which allows for two tree samplings to be planted.

We also contribute to the Serengeti De-snaring Programme, and through the events we organise – the Victoria Falls Marathon in Zimbabwe and the Kilimanjaro Marathon in Tanzania – we assist Tumaini La Maisha in treating childhood cancer, as well as the Greenline Africa Trust and the Vic Falls Anti-Poaching Unit.

The personal touch

When we plan your safari with you, we welcome chatting over the phone, or face to face, so that we get to know you better and can put together that lifetime trip you’ve always dreamt of.

You have 24/7 access to us when you’re travelling – no chat bots here!

On a Wild Frontiers safari …

Our vehicles are purpose built – all guests have comfortable window seats and plenty of room for taking photos. Some are open, most offer roof hatches for game viewing with 360 degrees views, with bean bags to help you steady those longer camera lenses. You’ll appreciate these when travelling long, hot dusty roads – with a mini fridge and charging stations.

Our operations are fully licenced and have public and personal liability insurance. We are members of AUTO (Association of Uganda Tour Operators), TATO (Tanzania Associations of Tour Operators) and ATTA (African Travel & Tourism Association).

In Tanzania, our safari guides follow the TATO Safari Guide Code of Conduct & Ethics.

Our guests and what they say

We’ve arranged and hosted trips for National Geographic, Discovery Channel and the BBC. President Bill Clinton, River Monsters’ Jeremy Wade, and numerous others have all travelled with us. We’ve worked on Anti Malaria expeditions with Kingsley Holgate, and we’ve also arranged some pretty unique trips, including the first disabled person to summit Kili, and a paraglide team that launched off the top of Kilimanjaro.

“We have been using Wild Frontiers for our travel arrangements in Africa since 1994, as we have found them to be the most efficient, reliable agency, and able to ‘make things happen’ in the most remote parts of Africa.” David Bristow, former editor, Getaway Magazine.

Where we explore

Aside from our own Uganda and Tanzania operations, we arrange trips to a multitude of destinations in Central, East and Southern Africa, including Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. We’re also the organisers of two epic annual African events – the Kilimajaro and the Victoria Falls marathons.

Whether you dream of summiting Africa’s highest peak, witnessing the Great Wildebeest Migration, trekking gorillas and other primates in verdant forests, navigating meandering Okavango deltas in a mokoro, climbing active volcanoes, white water rafting the mighty Zambezi River, or simply kicking back and indulging in 5-star luxury at an island hideway in Zanzibar – we’ll take care of it all.

Something special …

We offer walking safaris and special interest trips, including birding and photographic safaris. Our Explorer style mobile camps are the perfect choice for those seeking an intimate safari experience, falling asleep to the sound of roaring lion and grunting hippo rather than fellow safari goers.

Off the beaten track adventures

Untouched Zakouma National Park, the Central African Rainforests and Mount Nyiragongo- an active volcano in the DRC – are amongst the lesser explored destinations we have ventured to. For us, the wilder the better. If you can dream it, I bet we can make it happen for you.

In a nutshell

We are confident that we have the right team and expertise to offer you the best possible safari. When it comes to Africa, we explore, whilst others follow.

Travel with Wild Frontiers … come back changed.
