Located in the northern part of the Serengeti National Park, not far from the Mara River, is our seasonal Serengeti North Wilderness Camp which is typically open from July to October to coincide with the dramatic river crossings for which the Serengeti is famous. This is a beautiful area – a mix of gently rolling hills and riverine forests, broken by small rivers and occasional granite outcrops and ‘kopjes’. Our intimate camp offers ten spacious tents with en-suite facilities, including an eco-friendly flush toilet and gravity shower. The central dining tent complements a cosy lounge tent including a well stocked bar, reference library and a selection of board games.

Sundowners are typically enjoyed around a crackling campfire, and our safari chef is renowned for his freshly prepared, tasty meals. Drifting off to sleep with the sounds of the wild African bush surrounding you is an experience you will never forget!

The Camp

The Camp

Serengeti North Wilderness Camp is a ‘seasonal’ camp located in the north of the Serengeti National Park, a short distance from the banks of the Mara River. The style of camp is simple but with every comfort being taken care of. Seasonal camps have the benefit of being able to move to some of the best game viewing areas of the park, and we work under their strict guidelines with the camp being truly eco-friendly.

Comprising just ten spacious tents, we provide comfortable beds and quality linen, with en suite eco-friendly flushing toilet and bush-shower off an intimate dressing room area. Lighting is by 12-volt (solar powered) with bedside lamps provided. The tents each have a shady verandah.

An airy, central dining tent complements our comfortable lounge tent which has a small reference library, maps, some games for children and a recharging facility for cameras and videos. Our safari chef will prepare sumptuous meals for your enjoyment and special dietary requests are taken care of. We also have a typical safari campfire in the evenings for our guests to enjoy sundowners and snacks, and relive the day’s experiences.

We provide a friendly, intimate quality tented bush camp, with good facilities in an amazing area, with due respect for this fragile ecosystem.

Safari Options

As well as ‘drive-in’ safaris, we have a well-priced ‘fly-in’ safari package. You fly into Kogatende airstrip (which is about a 30-min game drive away) and then spend nights at this camp, enjoying game drives in the area guided by one of our professional guides. You may stay for any number of nights, but we recommend a minimum of 3 or 4 to relax and fully explore the region.

Other safari highlights in the region include Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, Ol Donyo Lengai active volcano and Lake Natron, and of course the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks

When to Go

This camp is only open during the peak migration period when the large wildebeest herds are specifically in the area– namely June to November. However, you may combine a few nights here with some nights in our central camp – to get the best of the Serengeti.
