Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, is sadly also a place where elephants are dying from eating plastic. The Victoria Falls dumpsite is situated in an open space where many animals, including elephants, scavenge. Recently a number of elephants have died after excessive intake of plastic waste. An electric fence needs to be built around the dumpsite to deter elephants and other species from feeding on the waste. The fence will need to be solar powered and patrolled by an already present anti-poaching team in the area.
This is a project under The Victoria Falls Green Fund/Environment Africa in partnership with VAPU, The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust and the Municipality of Victoria Falls. $50,000 USD is needed to put up the fence and to date they have received pledges from Shearwater of $6,000, have raised through crowd funding $8,000 and the Victoria Falls Marathon donated $4,000. More is desperately needed and The EleFence Project would welcome the support.
The fencing company has agreed for the fence to be put up in stages which means with the $2,000 already received they can now get started.
