Marangu route: Machame route:
Also known as the “Coca Cola” Route, this is the busiest route on the mountain, and uses the same route for ascending and descending.
You stay in communal huts. The climb can be done in 5 days, but it is advisable to spend an extra night at Horombo Hut for more acclimatisation and therefore a better chance of summitting.
A minimum of six days hiking is recommended for this route that starts on the very scenic southwest side of Kilimanjaro, and follows the contours along the the southern face, finally ascending from the southeast up past Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak. You will see Kilimanjaro from many angles and the scenery is spectacular!
